  « The Jewish world will have to wait at least 20 years before genuine Israeli music develops, a top-ranking Jewish composer believes. Dr. BENNO BARDI, who left Germany the day before Hitler came to power, leaving behind 2,000 manuscripts, made the estimate. He said that apart from religious music, it is misleading to speak of "Jewish” music in discussing new compositions coming out of Israel. Much of what appears to be indigenous Israeli music shows traces of the lands from which the Israeli came, he said. The Israeli War of Independence fused all differences and some of the war songs produced during that time have a genuine Israeli ring, Bardi believes. »
